Thai AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Nadda Buranasiri said he expects that fares offered by Thai AirAsia X on routes between Bangkok and Muscat, Oman can be lowered by up to 20 per cent than what they are with rival carriers.
Mr Buranasiri said:
Our fares will be around 20 per cent cheaper than what other airlines are offering in Oman. We are truly excited to be the first long-haul, low-cost carrier to launch direct flights from Muscat to Bangkok. We are confident that there is great potential in connecting the two destinations and it is our pleasure to play a role in offering low fares and convenient connectivity.
The Thai AirAsia X CEO also said the aim is to bring 100,000 visitors from Oman to Thailand on a yearly basis. Last year, for instance, the carrier provided 59,000 seats out of a total of 71,000 Omanis that visited Thailand.
Buranasiri also said:
The way AirAsia operates, we very much depend on the lifestyle of the new generation of passengers and that is why our fare models are designed to be tailor-made, so maybe It will have an effect by these days the economy and travel don’t correlated that much.
He added:
When the world economy is not great, you would expect travel to drop but, surprisingly, from the first quarter, the number of people coming in and out of Thailand has grown between 15 to 18 per cent, so these modern generations do travel. Every time a low cost airline opens in the market, it creates a new segment. There is competition, but we expect it to get bigger.
The LCC announced recently that it will operate three times per week between Bangkok and Muscat with direct flights on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturday. The first flight will take off from Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport on 28th June.
The airline also revealed it will be using Airbus A330s on the route, which has 365 seats in the Economy Class and another 12 Premium Flatbed in the Business Class.
