Low-cost carrier Thai AirAsia joined other global airlines in suspending flights to Wuhan, China amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The airline announced on Thursday that the suspension will be imposed until Tuesday, January 28.

Thai AirAsia has flights to the Chinese province, one from Phuket Airport, and one from Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok. It has a frequency of 14 flights weekly for the one from Bangkok, and seven times a week from Phuket.

Thai AirAsia’s parent firm, AirAsia Berhad, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspension was to assure that the safety and well-being of its passengers are its top priority.

“AirAsia is complying with advice and regulations from global and local health authorities, including the World Health Organization,” it said. “We are closely monitoring this situation and will continue to provide information on the latest developments,” it added.
Apart from Thai AirAsia, other airlines that suspended flights to Wuhan were Air France, Cathay Dragon, China Airlines, Korean Air, Lanmei Airlines, Lion Airlines, Malindo, Scoot, Spring Airlines Japan, and Sriwijaya Air.

Meanwhile, the Thailand government said it is also taking precautionary measures to ensure that the spread of the virus will be prevented.

There are already two cases of coronavirus in Thailand, one from a 73-year-old local who traveled back from Wuhan, and another 68-year-old male Chinese. Both patients are now being treated outside Bangkok.
