Thai AirAsia Adds New Routes to Khon Kaen

Thai AirAsia announced on Friday that it is introducing two new services to its route map. In both instances, TAA will operate flights from Khon Kaen – one from Hat Yai and the other one from Chiang Mai from 28th April.
Promotional ticket fares for Khon Kaen-Hat Yai start at 890 baht one-way, while for Khon Kaen-Chian Mai it will be 590 baht in one direction. TAA is reportedly starting both routes at one flight per day each.
This is the fifth route that Thai AirAsia is starting out of Hat Yai. At the moment, the LCC operates eight daily flights between Hat Yai and the capital of Bangkok, two flights per day on Hat Yai-Chiang Mai route, four weekly flights between Hat Yai and U-Tapao and 10 flights per week (via parent company AirAsia Bhd Malaysia) between Hat Yai and Kuala Lumpur.
TAA Moving to Routes Others Shy Away From
The move is consistent with Thai AirAsia’s willingness to work routes that other carriers usually shy away from for fear of not getting enough financially from them or that the routes are simply not interesting to travelers enough.
In addition, this also corresponds to the airline’s development of multiple bases. These now include Don Muang, Phuket, Krabi, U-Tapao, Chiang Mai and now also Hat Yai. In all these airports Thai AirAsia keeps its planes ready to take off to a destination they operate to.
The news about Khon Kaen new routes also come a month after the carrier has revealed plans of opening a new service between Chian Rai and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This service is slated to begin on 1st April.
Tassapon: Khon Kaen is the Center of Northeastern Region
Thai AirAsia chief executive Tassapon Bijleveld said that Khon Kaen is the center of Thailand’s northeastern region and has a lot to offer, both when it comes to tourism and business conventions.
Mr Tassapon said:
Regional connections have seen significant growth as they create new tourism flows and investment opportunities.
He also said that they airline has received a lot of positive feedback from its customers regarding its Khon Kaen-Don Mueang route.
