From August 5, Vistara Airlines will offer five weekly nonstop flights between Mumbai and Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Vistara's Airbus A320neo aircraft with three cabins will operate the route.
This is the airline's second service to the capital of Thailand. Vistara inaugurated direct flights between Delhi and Bangkok in August 2019. The service was initially discontinued during the pandemic but restarted in March of this year with greater frequency.
"Thailand continues to be one of the most popular vacation destinations among Indians, and we are thrilled to launch flights between Mumbai and Bangkok... This route has enormous potential for a full-service airline like Vistara.", Vinod Kannan, CEO of Vistara.
Vistara will become the fifth carrier to operate the route. Both IndiGo and Thai Airways provide daily flights between Mumbai and Bangkok, while Air India operates this route twice each week. Thai Lion Air links Mumbai to the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok.
The programme intends to accommodate the growing number of Indian visitors to Thailand. As a result, India has surpassed China as Thailand's most important target market for tourism, particularly as China's visitor numbers continue to decline owing to pandemic-related travel restrictions.
During the first six months of this year, more visitors from India than from any other country visited Thailand. According to Thailand's Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, more than 10% of the 2,2 million visitors who have visited Thailand so far this year have originated from India.
