As tourism increases, the Transport Ministry of Thailand must seek additional foreign flights into the country. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-chat gave the directive for the ministry to contact overseas airlines on the same day he said that the tourist industry is on the mend. According to the government, the country has seen around 10 million foreign arrivals up until December 10 of this year. That number will only grow as the high season approaches.

More ground service personnel have been ordered, according to the Bangkok Post, to deal with the influx of travelers. In related developments, the Tourism and Sports Ministry has allegedly postponed its request to the cabinet to allow some nighttime entertainment facilities to remain open beyond 2am. Now, on December 20, the recommendation to the cabinet will coincide with the "We Travel Together" tourist promotion.

According to the Tourism and Sports Minister, allowing such venues to stay open past 2 a.m. may go into effect around March. The government selected areas in nine provinces for the programme, with Patong's Bangla Road being the first to remain open until 4am. Critics, however, say allowing such venues to stay open later will cause a surge in drunk driving and more accidents.

Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also agreed that entertainment venues should close at 2am, citing the COVID-19 situation, and the general public’s safety and health.
