In order to reduce crowds at airport immigration desks, the Thai government agreed in principle to a plan to temporarily get rid of the Tor Mor 6 form for non-Thais entering or leaving the country by air.
Deputy government spokesperson Traisuree Traisoranakul indicated that the measure will be implemented for a specified amount of time, after which a review will be conducted to determine if Tor Mor 6 should be permanently cancelled.
She stated that the decision to temporarily eliminate the foreigner immigration form would improve passenger flow at airport immigration counters, as the number of foreign arrivals had significantly increased and the requirement to submit the Tor Mor 6 form along with COVID-19 screening had caused bottlenecks.
"Thailand is in the process of fully reopening the country to foreign tourists and recovering from the consequences of COVID-19. Cancelling the immigration form will attract more foreign tourists and reduce printing costs by 0.7 baht per form."
Since 2017, the same immigration form for Thai nationals has no longer been in use, in compliance with directives from the National Council for Peace and Order.
She claimed that it is possible to acquire data from arriving passengers by utilising the biometric system and airline and travel company data.
She emphasised that the Interior Ministry will soon make an official statement saying that the policy is no longer in effect.
"The move will also assist in promoting a favourable image of Thai airports to an international audience," Traisuree explained.
