Bangkok Airways announced its results for the second quarter of this year. The carrier performed not as well as they expected in the 2Q2017, reporting a drop in total revenue of 1.2% compared to the same period last year (its total revenue was close to six million baht).

The carrier can say that their performance was affected by higher jet fuel prices and fierce competition in this quarter.

The Boutique Asian Airline also reported that it carried 4.5% more passengers year-on-year (Y-o-Y) thanks to its point-of-sales business in China booming and increasing by 59.4% compared to the same period last year.

The airline is flying daily between Samui and Guangzhou since January and has launched direct flights between Samui and Chengdu in July last year.

At the same time, the carrier also entered a code-share partnership with Hong Kong Airlines, which allows it to offer better connectivity between Thailand and Hong Kong, as well as with Xiamen Airlines and connect Thailand and Cambodia, namely tourist destinations such as Phuket, Krabi, Samui and Chiang Mai in Thailand and Phnom Penh and Puttipong in Cambodia.

Also, BA reported that its passenger yield per revenue passenger kilometer (RPK) dropped 8.3% from 2Q2016 and was 4.25 baht, while it recorded an average passenger load factor of 62.7%.

When it comes to the results for the first half of the year 2017, Bangkok Airways reported a net profit of 44.4 billion baht and revenue of 13.45 billion baht. Total revenue for the airline in 1H2017 was 2.7% lower than last year and was 13.4 billion baht, while net profit was only 44.4 million.

Bangkok Airways President Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth said on Tuesday that the airline will stay focused on growing its network and aim to cover the top destinations in Asia to facilitate code-share partners and passengers. As part of that, the airline intends to launch a service between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, Vietnam. The service should begin by end October and it will operate four times per week.

As of end of June, Bangkok Airways had a total fleet of 36 aircraft, including the two new ATR72-600s that it received in this quarter.
