A higher number of passengers helped Bangkok Airways post revenue of 13.83 billion baht for the first half of this year, 12.5 per cent over the same period in the previous year.

BA reported a net profit of 1.46 billion baht in the first half of 2016. This is 23 per cent up from last year. In addition, the carrier reported revenue of 6.05 billion baht in the second quarter, up 8.8 per cent compared to last year.

Both can be attributed to a higher number of passengers.

Profit before income-tax for BA was 491.7 million baht. However, the airline had to file additional taxes of 447 million baht due to the change in calculations by the Board of Investment for tax privileges granted by this body.

Due to this change by the Board of Investment, Bangkok Airways reported a net loss of 111.9 million baht between April and June. Last year, the airline recorded a 102.2 million baht profit for this same period.

The change was made on 16th June for both tax privileges and tax calculations granted by the Board of Investment.

BA Added Two New Routes in the Second Quarter

So far, Bangkok Airways has added two new routes in the second quarter of 2016. These are Bangkok-Danang, Vietnam and Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son.

The first of these, Bangkok-Danang mainly targets so called “MICE” (meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibition) and leisure travellers, since Danang is a major air-travel hub in the SE Asia.

On the other side, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son are both attractive destinations for both business and leisure travel. This means the route will serve not only tourists and business travellers well, but also government officers.

Bangkok Airways Expects More Codeshares in Q2 2016

Asia’s Boutique Airline also expects to add at least two additional codeshare agreements with new airline partners during the second quarter of 2016.

Recently, the Thai-based airline added its 21st codeshare partner when it inked a deal with Austrian Airlines. The partnership with the flag carrier of Austria allows Bangkok Airways to offer a better connection between Thailand and Europe. Also, this allows Austrian Airlines passengers to connect with destinations in Thailand.
