In its latest report for March, 2017, Airports of Thailand (AoT) revealed that combined, the airports under its management served a total of 11,629,468 passengers in March, 2017, or 8.49% more than in the same month last year, when they served 10,719,026 passengers.
Of that number, AoT reported, 5,850,007 were boarding passengers and 5,710,597 were disembarking. Last year in March, AoT reported 5,371,989 boarding and 5,269,708 disembarking passengers, or 8.90% and 8.37% less than this year respectively.
However, as AoT reported, less passengers used Thai airports as a gateway and for transit in March this year, than it did in March last year. According to AoT, Thai airports reported 68,864 transit passengers in March, 2017, 10.95% less than 77,329 from March, 2016.
On the other hand, aircraft movement went up 8.48% between Jan-Mar, 2016 and Jan-March, 2017, from 65,599 to 71,161.
When it comes to the individual airports, Suvarnabhumi handled a total of 16.10 million passenger movements between January and March this year. This included 4,350,448 international passengers, or 2.47% more than 4,245,656 in March last year. Of that number of international travellers, 2,215,825 were boarding, 2,083,329 disembarking and 51,294 in transit. Last year, the airport reported 2,136,671 boarding (-3.70%), 2,042,855 disembarking (-1.98%) and 66,130 transiting (+22.43%).
Suvarnabhumi also reported 990,520 domestic passengers, 13.83% more than 870,163 in the same period last year.
Don Muang Airport handled 9.62 million passengers total. The second largest Thai airport reported an increase in international passenger traffic of 10.80% between March, 2016 and March, 2017 (1,060,636 to 1,175,179). The number of boarding passengers went up 11.37% from last year and increased from 528,517 to 588,618. The airport also saw an increase of disembarking passengers of 10.41% (523,877 to 578,405) and a 1.04% decline in transit passengers (8,242 to 8,156).
As for domestic passenger numbers, Don Muang reported an increase of 12.27% Year-on-Year from 1,910,098 to 2,144,416.
Phuket Airport reported handling 4.65 million passengers for the first three months of 2017 and Chiang Mai 2.74. The first airport also reported 852,089 international passengers and 666,516 domestic passengers in March, 2017. Chiang Mai reported 187,552 international and 658,634 domestic passengers in the same period.
