According to Airports of Thailand (AoT) all six airports under its management had a good last month, with strong showings in both passenger traffic and aircraft movement.
An AoT report also said that Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Hat Yai airports handled 9,654,650 passengers in October, which is 6.13% more than 9,097,094 from the same month in last year. At the same time, aircraft movements were registered at 66,108, increasing by 6.05% (62,334) from previous year.
Between January and October, 2016, the busiest airport in Thailand was Suvarnabhumi, which handled 46,34 million passengers. Don Muang came in second with 29,21 million passengers, followed by Phuket at third with 12,48 million guests.
Thailand’s biggest airport Suvarnabhumi registered 3,488,491 international passenger in October, or 2.68% up from 3,397,393 in the same period last year. When it comes to domestic passengers, their number went up from 711,803 to 808,159 or 13.54%.
Meanwhile, international aircraft movement increased from 20,490 to 21,120 (3.07%) and domestic from 5,889 to 6,705 (13.86%).
In the same period, Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport reported passenger traffic increase of 9.28% or 814,620 to 890,237 when it comes to international passengers, whereas domestic passenger traffic went up 3.38% from 1,946,738 to 2,012,574.
Don Muang also reported an increase in international aircraft movement of 3.72% from 6,068 to 6,294 and of 2.50% in domestic aircraft movement from 13,974 to 14,323.
Phuket International Airport also reported an increase in both passenger traffic and aircraft movement. According to its October figures, this airport saw an increase in international passenger traffic from 533,369 to 577,723 (8.32%) and from 505,902 to 569,650 (12.60%) for domestic traffic.
International aircraft movements went up 6.28% from 3,645 to 3,874, while domestic movements were up in October 16.50% from 3,624 to 4,222.
Chiang Mai reported a slight increase in international passenger traffic of 1.20% from 149,587 to 151,377 and of 14.42% from 554,891 to 634,920.
The airport registered a slight decline (1.05%) in international aircraft movements (1,331 to 1,317), but an increase in domestic movements of 15.63% from 4,038 to 4,669.
Chiang Rai’s overall passenger traffic increased from 160,528 to 167,663 (4.44%), but aircraft movements went down from 1,151 to 1,109 (-3.65%).
Finally, Hat Yai reported an improvement in overall passenger traffic of 9.80% (322,263 to 353,856) and of 16.53% in aircraft movements (2,124 to 2,475) for October, 2016.
