The Airports of Thailand (AoT) has approved some 393 billion baht for the development of six international airports which it operates.

AoT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said on November 16 that the agency’s board of directors has already approved the capital expenditure for the development of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Muang International Airport, Hat Yai International Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport, Chiang Rai International Airport, and Phuket Airport.

“We are aiming to boost the six airports capacity to accommodate 243.7 million passengers,” he said.

Sirismatthakarn said that a portion of the budget will be used for the construction of a second terminal for Suvarnabhumi Airport.

“That itself will boost the airport's capacity by another 40 million passengers per year,” he said.

Part of the budget will also be allocated for the phase three project of Don Muang and the second phase of Chiang Mai.
