Air Asia X group (AAX), comprised of Malaysia AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X, has announced an extension of medium-haul flights out of Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur in order to meet the ever-increasing demand. Tony Fernandes, CEO of AAX, said that the airline is "back in full force."
175 pilots and 285 cabin workers who were laid off during the COVID-19 outbreak have been "reactivated" by the low-cost airline.
Fernandes said that AAX intends to offer long-distance routes to London, Dubai, and Istanbul.

"This strategy makes sure that AAX Group can operate at an optimal frequency on our core routes to keep our costs low and offer our customers the best fares on the market, while at the same time maximising our revenues to ensure the future success and viability of our airline."
The CEO thought back on his promise to get the airline's workers back on board during the flu outbreak: "I made a promise, and it exhilarates me that we will be able to keep it in two and a half years when we return to the sky more powerful than before. By December of this year, all of our AAX pilots who are presently on furlough will return to the flight deck, along with the cabin staff that was laid off."

Malaysia AAX CEO Benyamin Ismail said reservations out of Kuala Lumpur are "looking strong." He says that travel over medium distances is coming back quickly, and he expects a good trend to start in early 2023.
