Thai Regional Airline's slogan 'We Fly Everywhere' should have been 'We Fly Nowhere', now that it wasn't able to take off to any destination that it advertised in its website.
The airline posted on its website (which has now been taken offline) that their maiden service won't be available until March this year after its postponement twice last year stating that they are still awaiting approval of their application for a license to operate.
They sold tickets with travel dates even before they get their license approved by the Civil Aviation Department (CAD).
Early in January this year, the airline executives were summoned to a meeting by the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) and the Civil Aviation Department to discuss their case that has enraged the more than 500 individuals who booked tickets online.
The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) disclosed that they received reports of customers claiming they could no longer contact the airline's offices to get refunds as the airline's website has already been taken down, thus information about the airline is no longer available. They also claimed that their phone calls went unanswered when they tried to call the airline's office at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The airline supposed destinations include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Phuket with Bangkok as its hub.
According to reports, CAD already warned TRA against selling tickets before they get their license approved. However, the airline denied such warning from the department.
But what makes it hard for CAD to approve its license to operate?
CAD officials said that TRA applied for a new license for scheduled flights operation as against its old license that was for air taxi and charter airline operations which the former granted to the latter in 2011. Thus, TRA has to comply with a new set of regulations before its new license can be approved.
TRA has in its fleet a couple of Piper PA-31-350 Navajo Chieftains, twin-engine propeller aircraft that can seat 8-10 people each.
