The flag carrier has announced recently that the planned inaugural Bangkok-Manila service for its second Dreamliner will no longer push through.

The airline was originally planning to deploy its new B787 jetliner on its Bangkok-Manila route for its inaugural service. The Dreamliner, which the B787 is more popularly known, is a mid-size wide-body jetliner said to be the world's most fuel-efficient aircraft. It has a maximum capacity of up to 335 passengers in a single class configuration.

Currently the airline is using a bigger aircraft, the wide-body B777-200, on its Bangkok-Manila sector. It seats up to 550 passengers maximum in a mono-class configuration.

The proposed Bangkok-Manila service would have run from August 8 to August 31. In its recent press release, the flag carrier stated that it has no immediate plans to deploy its new Dreamliner on the route. The new aircraft will now be deployed in its Bangkok-Perth and Bangkok-Tokyo Haneda routes starting September this year.

The airline's first Dreamliner was on a trial service between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

The fuel-efficient airliner was recently unveiled to the public sporting the new 'Thai Contemporary Concept' design in its cabin. The contemporary design is also used in its fleet of B777 aircraft.

The new fleet of B787-8 will all sport a two-class configuration, 240 seats for economy and 24 seats for the Business class.

The Economy class will feature a 3-3-3 seating layout and the Business class will have a six-abreast seat configuration.

An airline official stated that the carrier is undergoing a lot of management changes affecting important decisions that include route adjustments and refleeting program. He admitted that Manila remains an option for the upcoming B787 delivery.

For the meantime, its nine-weekly frequency between Bangkok and Manila is served by a wider and bigger B777 aircraft.
