Thailand's political unrest has wreaked havoc in the country's tourism industry for months now as several countries issued either a travel ban or travel advisory to its citizens against traveling to Thailand.

The travel advisories came shortly after the country plunged into serious political uncertainty in October last year. As a result, foreign airlines have either reduce or even canceled services to Thailand, particularly Bangkok and larger cities where mass protests are prevalent.

Thai Airways, in its part, suffered a harsh beating as its passenger load plummeted sharply by more than 30% during the six-month period ending February 2014. The airline has not foreseen a speedy recovery with its own assessment.

Chokchai Panyayong, the airline's acting President, blamed primarily the political problem that beset the country as well as China's regulation on zero-dollars tours.

The full-service carrier saw its passenger load plummeted last month to 72% and even expect to see it falling even more this month. It expects to have its load factor to hover around 71-72% during the first quarter and 70% in the second quarter, which is considered as a low season.

The airline also blamed the extreme weather condition in Japan which has paralyzed many parts of Japan for the flight delays between Japan and Thailand, affecting its revenue.
