Joining the global bandwagon in in-flight connectivity service, Thai Airways recently revealed to the media that it will offer Wi-Fi service on board starting February this year.

The state-owned flag carrier disclosed that its application for a license with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) was already approved. Thus, Thai Airways becomes the first Thai carrier to offer in-flight wireless internet, which has become the global trend in the commercial aviation industry.

The airline's fleet of A380 and A330 will be the first aircraft to feature the innovative wireless connectivity service.

While other airlines offer their in-flight W-Fi service gratis, Thai Airways will provide their wireless connectivity to their customers with a fee. And it doesn't come cheap, take note. The limited service, which limits a user up to 3MB data download, will cost him THB150 ($4.50). If cost isn't an issue to you, you might want to pay THB460 for up to 10MB of data.

If you have nothing else to do on board while your plane is cruising at an altitude thousands of feet above and you don't like the menu offering on the airline's in-flight entertainment service, surfing the web might be an option.

But with the small data allowance, sharing or downloading images or photos as well as streaming movies is quite impossible. Users would only be limited to basic web surfing or managing their emails during their flight.
