Low-cost giant, AirAsia Bhd., marks another milestone with the launch of Thai AirAsia X's first long-haul service following its domestic run that served as a test run for the carrier, as well as an opportunity to introduce itself to Thai travelers.
Thai AirAsia X is the country's first long-haul low-cost carrier, and the first overseas long-haul unit of AirAsia X which is currently based in Kuala Lumpur.
The long-haul service will be served by a wide-body Airbus A330-300 aircraft in a once-daily frequency. AirAsia X operates from Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport and Seoul's Incheon International Airport.
Scheduled for launch the following month will be a daily service from Bangkok to two Japanese gateways, Osaka and Tokyo.
Nadda Buranasiri, Thai AirAsia X CEO, couldn't hide his excitement over the airline's inaugural long-haul service which he described as a historic milestone in the local aviation history where a low-cost long-haul Thai carrier commenced commercial operations.
Thai AirAsia X is the second unit for AirAsia Bhd. to be based in Thailand as well as the first overseas unit for its long-haul arm, AirAsia X. Overall, it is seventh unit under the AirAsia group following the establishment of six other units in three other countries and its home, Malaysia.
He was proud to claim that the newest long-haul subsidiary will strengthen the group's growing dominance in the budget travel sector across Asia.
Already in the airline's blueprint is a possibility of launching more long-haul routes in the near future across Asia and beyond such as Russia, Eastern Europe, and even Africa.
