AirAsia Plane

he long-haul budget carrier officially started its commercial long-haul operations on June 17 this year when it launched its inaugural flight from Bangkok to Seoul (Incheon), South Korea.

Last September 1, it simultaneously launched twin routes to Japan, specifically to Osaka and Tokyo-Narita, bringing its total route network to three.

The Bangkok-Osaka route, a distance of 4,157 kilometers, is served five times a week while its Bangkok-Tokyo route is served once daily. The flight frequency of the former will be increased to once daily starting in March 26 next year while the latter will become a two times daily service.

According to Thai AirAsia X CEO, Mr Nadda Buranasiri, the airline has no direct competitor in the twin routes, noting that full-service airlines plying the Bangkok-Osaka and Bangkok-Tokyo routes operate from Suvarnabhumi.

He was excited about the launch of the twin routes to Japan saying that both flights were well-received and even confident to say that the demand for low-cost long-haul travel between the two countries will keep growing in the coming years.

He disclosed that the airline has already received 50% advanced booking of its flights for the first quarter of 2015. This precisely why this early, it has already announced the addition of frequency to the two Japanese routes.

The Bangkok-Osaka route is also being served by two full-service carriers, Thai Airways and Japan Airlines, from Suvarnabhumi. The Bangkok-Tokyo (Narita) route, on the other hand, is somewhat crowded with four full-service airlines, namely, Thai Airways, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, and Delta Airlines serving it.

With the exception of Delta, all of the above airlines also operate the Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi)-Tokyo (Haneda) route.
