Thai Air Asia is happy to add two new flights to Krabi, the South's most in-demand holiday destination and Singapore.

Krabi is among those mostly frequented by foreign tourists for its world-class beaches complemented with underwater spectacles suited for diving and snorkeling, rivaling the country's more famous resort destinations such as Phuket and Pattaya, minus the crowd.

The potential of Krabi as a major tourist destination in the country has prompted Thai AirAsia to open new routes to the city from the major tourist centers themselves, Singapore and Chiang Mai.

Come November 25th, Thai AirAsia will launch the first of the two new routes, the Singapore-Krabi route while the second route, Chiang Mai-Krabi, will be launched on December 15th.

According to the airline's CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, the new routes to Krabi will offer travelers more options to explore the country's southern regions.

Krabi is the capital of Krabi province which lies in the southern region of the country along the Andaman Sea. Its popularity to tourists is mainly attributed to its rich natural and cultural attractions such as beaches, dive sites, temples and religious festivals.

The city is connected to the capital, Bangkok, via most of the country's airlines, including Thai AirAsia. To coincide with the launching of the two new routes on November 25, the airline will also start adding frequency between the city and the national capital, making it eight times daily.

The additional flights to Krabi Airport will make it more attractive to travelers including tourists who will have more choices in their travel plans. In fact, early this year, the Civil Aviation Department has decided to convert the operating time of the airport to 24 hours, primarily to attract airlines operating from Phuket Airport to use Krabi Airport as an alternative.

Passenger volume at the Krabi Airport is expected to double this year due to the 24-hour operations. The airport handled more than 800,000 passengers during the peak season last year.

AirAsia is the first budget carrier in Asia founded in 1996 but went bankrupt and was about to fold up before Tony Fernandes came to the rescue in 2001 and bought the ailing airline at a token of 1 ringgit.

Since then, it has become what it is now, Asia's budget giant with six local subsidiaries in five countries across the region such as India (AirAsia India), Japan (AirAsia Japan), Indonesia (Indonesia AirAsia), Thailand (Thai AirAsia) and the Philippines (Philippines AirAsia and AirAsia Zest).

It was once named 'World's Best Low Cost Airline' by Skytrax for its business model emphasizing value for money, allowing air travelers to fly the cheapest way possible.

Currently, the AirAsia group serves 78 destinations in 25 countries across the region.
