Thai AirAsia Maintains Healthy Growth Rates For 3Q

The nation's biggest low-cost carrier, Thai AirAsia (TAA) turned out satisfactory growth indicators for the third quarter of 2015, posting more than 25% increase in passenger volume.

This growth almost matched the rise in the airline's capacity for the same period when it embarked on a fleet expansion, bringing its total to 44 Airbus 320s.

Between July and September TAA's capacity rose by 27%. It managed to fly over 3.5 million passengers for said period. This volume is higher by 23% versus last year's 2.85 million. This data is based on a report issued by AirAsia Berhad, Malaysia.

AirAsia is the parent company of TAA.

In terms of load factor, the airline was able to reach a level of 81% compared with last year's load factor of 82%.

Improvements in Thailand's political scene have largely contributed to a more robust tourism industry. Travelers had regained their enthusiasm to fly domestically and internationally.

During the third quarter, the airline also expanded its flight routes. Now, it flies regularly to its newest destinations such as Bengaluru, Nanchang, and Nanning.

In addition, it included U-tapao airport as its newest hub. Existing main hub is Don Mueang airport while secondary hubs include Phuket International, Chiang Mai International airport, and Krabi airport.

Available seat kilometers meanwhile went up by 25% also for the third quarter. This brings seat kilometer levels to about 4.5 billion. On the other hand, revenue passenger kilometers also went up by 23% or to a 3.65 billion mark. Revenue passenger kilometer
