U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya Airport is quickly becoming the number one aviation hub in Thailand thanks to Thai AirAsia's opening of no less than four new routes. The airline sent four planes on 27th November, which is a record for the most new flights launched in a single day by one airline in Thailand.
This included 60 youths from the north of Thailand, who had the opportunity to go on their very first air excursion to the Eastern Seaboard.
Thai AirAsia will now take passengers from U-Tapao to Singapore, Macau, Udon Thani and Chian Mai. Flights were announced by Thai AirAsia CEO Tassapon Bijleveld, U-Tapao Director Rear Admiral Worapol Thongpreecha and Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome.
Mr. Tassapon said:
'The official launch has market U-Tapao as the fifth hub for AirAsia and plans have been made to improve the quality and services. We believe that Pattaya, Rayong and other seaside resorts will be a major draw for U-Tapao airport, which is expected to expand in the near future.'
TAA chief executive officer added:
'AirAsia has located two Airbus A320 here, designated for flights to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Nanning and Nanchang, and now we are launching four more routes.'
U-Tapao Director Worapol explained that the new passenger terminal will be finished and ready to receive guests in mid-2016. The terminal is expected to serve millions per year or up to 1,500 people at a time.
Mayor Itthiphol said the new routes will be a big boost to the Eastern Seaboard and especially Pattaya.
Right now, the airport is receiving projects to improve upon its land connections. This should be finished in 2016 and visitors will be able to see the results then.
Thai AirAsia passengers will also be able to take a plane to Hat Yai, Songkia Province soon.
