When the Asean Economic Community (AEC) is officially established by 2015, Thai Air Asia shall be a major air service provider in the region as it is now launching more routes to select destinations.
According to Tassapon Bijleveld, its Chief Executive Officer, the budget carrier will fly to destinations which are not currently patented by aviation authorities.
Today, the low-cost airline is launching its flights to Mandalay, Myanmar while it has added more flights to Yangon, the country's business hub and old capital. The airline sees big potential in Myanmar's two largest cities, thus the expansion of its service.
Later on, Thai Air Asia will conquer other neighboring countries of Thailand as soon as it sees the need. Potential routes include Bagan, Da Nang in Vietnam; Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar; as well as Lao's Savannakhet.
The budget airline is now almost done with its preparation to transfer its operations from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang Airport. According to Mr. Tassaporn, they are coordinating with the Airports of Thailand and his company is doing its best to move its base to Don Mueang as soon as possible.
The target date for its complete transfer is on October 1, 2012 and so far, it is on the right track. Based on its website, flights to and from the Thai capital shall be at Don Mueang Airport.
