The budget subsidiary is set to launch the service on November 1 this year, the airline announced recently.

China has been a major source market for international travelers into Thailand. In fact, travelers from China accounted for almost 20% of the total foreign arrivals in Thailand in 2013.

Thai AirAsia registered a load factor of 80%, on average, from January to August this year on routes between Thailand and China.

Thus, the launch of the Krabi-Guangzhou service is a strategic expansion move to sustain the strong demand of Chinese travelers visiting Thailand every year.

Already, Thai AirAsia operates 13 routes to 10 destinations across mainland China including Hong Kong and Macau. Don Mueang handles 10 of the routes to China while Phuket and Chiang Mai handle the remaining 3 routes.

The encouraging load factor of 80% has prompted Thai AirAsia to expand its route network between Thailand and China with the addition of more connecting flights as well as opening more routes.

Krabi has been popular with Chinese travelers owing to its spectacular natural parks and world-class beaches. In fact, Chinese tourists make up the second most frequent customers of AirAsia flights between Bangkok and Krabi, next to local tourists.

The opening of a direct service between Krabi and Guangzhou will make it more convenient for travelers from mainland China to fly straight to their final destination.
