The youngest airline in the country, Thai AirAsia X, is set to join the crowded Bangkok airspace after the aviation authority of Thailand granted it its Air Operator's Certificate. The certificate is a legal document granted to new airline operators who desire to offer air service.

The certificate is a requirement that new airlines need to secure from the authority in order to be granted a permit to launch commercial operations.

Initially, the airline will acquire a couple of A330-300 planes under a lease agreement from another AirAsia subsidiary, for the maiden operations.

The airline originally set the launch date of its maiden service on March this year but has been temporarily put on hold due to the ongoing political crisis in the country.

The airline, however, did not elaborate further as to the date of the second launch.

AirAsia X CEO, Azran Osman-Rani, disclosed that the Thai long-haul subsidiary will offer connecting flights with its short-haul low-cost sister, Thai AirAsia, for the latter's domestic and regional network.

The executive further revealed that the establishment of a Thai hub will realize its long-term plan to create a multi-hub system for AirAsia X across the region.

In addition to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, AirAsia X is eyeing Bali as its next hub.
