The ongoing political drama in Thailand has brought considerable damages to almost forms of businesses in the country including its aviation and tourism industries.

Thai AirAsia X (TAAX), as expected, was not spared by the ongoing crisis as the management is delaying its launch which was originally set to March.

As the political crisis drags onto its fifth month, the airline has postponed the launch date without giving any details as to when the airline is going to commence operations. Tassapon Bijleveld, Thai AirAsia CEO, remarked that it is necessary to defer the launch until the political crisis is over.

He told the media that while the political problem keeps going on, they could not launch the service as it will be a bad decision to start a business amidst widespread uncertainty.

He said that they will only launch the new airline as soon as all 47 countries and territories lift their respective travel advisories against traveling to Thailand. By then, a launch can be possible since Thai AirAsia X only serve international long-haul routes.

The long-haul low-cost airline has a single A330-300 aircraft on standby at Don Mueang Airport since January this year awaiting the launch on March. It has already received its air operator's certificate from the country's Civil Aviation Department enabling it to commence operations anytime.

The airline refused to divulge the delivery date of its second aircraft, also a A330-300, but it said that the plane will be configured into a two-class layout with 365 seats in the economy and 12 seats in the business class.

Nadda Buranasiri was appointed the first Chief Executive to head Thai AirAsia X. He had previously worked for Warner Music (Thailand) for several years prior to his appointment.

TAAX will initially serve the market of China, Japan and South Korea, the regional behemoths.
