Thailand's budget carrier, Thai Air Asia will make its decision to move its domestic operations back to Don Mueang Airport probably in two months, after the low-cost airline's scheduled debut on the country's national stock exchange (Stock Exchange of Thailand) on 31 May.

The CEO of Asia Aviation Public Co. Ltd. (AAV), Tassapon Bijleveld, said Wednesday that careful studies were made, taking everything into considerations, especially the economic aspect of it, before they will come up with a decision, that would be beneficial to all parties involved. The Asia Aviation Public Co. Ltd. (AAV) is the management company of Thai Air Asia.

He further acknowledged that the ten-country Southeast Asian region, where Thailand belongs, is host to over 680 million population, making it an area of huge potential for players in the regional budget airline industry. He stressed that the region has still plenty of room for more players in the low-cost airline sector to address the growing demand. The market demand in Thailand, for example, has not been sufficiently met as supply is far from adequate.

Mr. Tassapon was positive that the budget carrier's total passengers would breach the 8 million mark this year compared to the preceding year's 7.2 million. He also made a bold assessment that the cabin factor would grow up to 82 percent compared to the previous year's 80 percent.

On the other hand, the top officials of Thai Air Asia made an announcement earlier that the budget carrier will have its initial public offering (IPO) on May 23-25 before its scheduled debut on May 31 at the stock market. The initial price is set at 3.70 baht per share. This will allow the company to get more fresh funds for its expansion program that will double its total fleet over a five-year period to 48 aircraft.
