Russia has become the fastest growing travel market for Thailand since Thai Airways introduced a direct service between the Thai capital and Moscow years ago. In the same way, Thailand has been a popular destination for Russian tourists in mainland Asia.
Due to the growing popularity of Thailand to Russian tourists, Thai Airways is adding frequency between Bangkok and Moscow, from the current four-times weekly to six flights a week.
Russian tourists come to Thailand primarily for leisure travel as the Kingdom is renowned for its world-class infrastructures and excellent tourists facilities. Thailand is also popular for its hundreds of ancient religious temples dotting across the country, most famous of which are in the capital.
Tourists from Russia usually spikes during the autumn and winter seasons when weather at home becomes too uncomfortable for most residents. Those who have the means to escape the unpleasant weather usually go to the countries in the tropics where weather is mild. Thailand is one of the most favorite countries in Asia where most Russian tourists like to go.
Aside from its mild weather and tropical climate, Thailand is preferred by many Russian tourists for its abundant natural and cultural attractions such as world-class resorts, white beaches, religious temples, museums, festivals, breathtaking scenery, and the hospitable people.
Bangkok has been a major aviation hub in Asia for many years with almost all major airlines from around the world operate flights into and out from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Its strategic location makes it a convenient transit point for many travelers who have connecting flights to the rest of the region.
Thai tourism authorities position and promote the Thai capital as a cosmopolitan city where ancient and modern attractions compliment each other. The ancient yet magnificent temples and other religious structures blend well with the modern and towering skyscrapers that juxtapose all over Bangkok's urban landscape.
World-class shopping is another reason why many Russians are attracted to Bangkok. The world famous Thai silk, leather and wooden items, and jewelry are among the most favorite souvenir items most tourists like to buy for its low prices.
Nightlife in most Thai cities, including Bangkok, is another attraction that has drawn many Europeans to Thailand.
With the additional frequency between the two major capitals, THAI Airways will be able to attract more Russians to visit Thailand from now on and in the years to come.
Founded in 1960, THAI Airways International is the flag carrier of the Kingdom and covers an extensive route network across the world including 75 destinations in 35 countries.
THAI Airways is a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's first and largest airline alliance. Currently, it keeps a fleet of 88 aircraft of mixed types from both Airbus and Boeing.
