Ranong, a town south of Thailand, will soon add to Nok Air's growing domestic network when it starts to launch a direct flight starting May 15, 2013, from its Bnagkok hub.

Ranong is a thriving town in southern Thailand located east of the estuary of the Pak Chan River, which forms a natural border with Myanmar.

Starting May 15, Nok Air will start its direct service between the Thai capital and Ranong, initially with a once-daily flight. The inaugural flight from Bangkok will leave at 6:25 in the morning and will touch down at Ranong Airport at 8:00 a.m. The return flight will depart Ranong 35 minutes later, at 8:35 and is expected to arrive in Bangkok at 10:10 a.m.

Ranong is a growing tourist destination in Thailand whose natural attractions include Namtok Ngao National Park, Koh Chang Island and Hat Cham Damri. Victoria Point, which is part of Myanmar, lies to the west of Ranong, on the opposite side of the estuary.

The budget airline, which is wholly owned by Thai Airways International, is already planning to augment its service to Ranong with the introduction of a second daily flight, come October 1 this year.

The initial once-daily service to Ranong is part of Nok Air's aggressive expansion program this year and onwards. Ranong is Nok Air's 16th route originating from its Bangkok hub and its 21st route overall.

Nok Air maintains two hubs in the country, the main hub at Don Mueang Airport and a secondary hub at Chiang Mai, up north.

The low-cost airline used to fly to regional destinations like India and Vietnam but had long been discontinued.

Currently, Nok Air keeps a fleet of 20 leased aircraft, 7 of which are turboprops and the rest are narrow-body Boeing 737 jets.
