After establishing itself in Myanmar through its services to Yangon, Nok Air is now targeting Vietnam next.
Nok Air executives announced last September 25 that the airline is interested in launching daily flights from the Thai capital city to the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.
In 2008, Nok Air was left with no choice but to focus on their domestic services after getting suspended to provide international flights. After the five-year suspension, the airline started resuming its international services by providing daily flights to the Mae Sot-Mawlamyine route.
Vitai Ratanakorn, the CEO of Nok Air, told Bangkok Post that they plan to launch their services to Vietnam most probably around mid-2014. It would be the airline's first time to provide flights to Ho Chi Minh.
In its quest to include Vietnam in its international services, Nok Air is set to face fierce competition against big airlines like Thai AirAsia, Thai Airways International, Qatar Aiways, Turkish Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and VietJet Air, as these also offer daily flights from Bangkok to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. But its executives are confident that the airline will do well, especially since all those airlines mentioned are full-service airlines, while Nok Air is a low-cost one.
