Bangkok has always been a favorite and a popular destination in Asia to international travelers from across the world.

No wonder then that in the recent survey by TripAdvisor's readers, the city emerged as the fourth most affordable destination where travelers get more value for every single dollar they spend. In its Trip Index Cities annual survey, Bangkok is only edged out by Hanoi, also in Asia, as the best value destination.

The city's fourth position is two notches higher over the previous edition.

The research firm cited the city's very affordable accommodation based on a single-night or overnight stay. A room for two of a four-star hotel, for example, will cost a traveler an average of THB5,257 per night. In comparison, the same accommodation in the world's best-value destination, Hanoi, is cheaper by THB300.

On average, Bangkok's four-star accommodations cost THB2,779 per night, making it as the most affordable in the 4-star accommodations category.

The survey studied the top 48 most popular city destinations in the world which also includes London, which topped the list in the most expensive cities to travel. It took into account typical costs for two to get a meal, a cocktail at a 5-star hotel, taxi and an overnight stay for two at a 4-star hotel.

Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, emerged as this year's most affordable city to travel whose average price tag only hovers around THB4,957. In comparison, the average cost in London is THB16,856 for two people to enjoy the same things.

Europe has 7 of the 10 most expensive cities to travel. Climbing six places this year, London dislodged Oslo, Norway which topped the 2013 edition.

Aside from Hanoi (1st) and Bangkok (4th), three other Asian cities made it to this year's top 10 best-value destinations. These include Jakarta (2nd place), Mumbai (7th) and Kuala Lumpur (8th). Rounding up the top 10 positions are Sharm-el-Sheikh (3rd), Sofia (5th), Cape Town (6th), Prague (9th) and Budapest (10th).

The survey aims to help travelers decide which destination they will go next for their vacation when it comes to affordability. In this year's survey, 7 of 10 places are occupied by Western and Northern European cities in the most expensive list with Asian cities occupying the other end of the spectrum.

Thai travelers who want to spend their vacation abroad can go to Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta for their affordability. If they still want to visit the world's most expensive destinations, they can check their respective TripAdvisor pages to search for cheaper hotel and dining options.
