The four-star rated regional airline will ramp up its route network and increase frequency to its existing routes starting October 26 this year as the ASEAN Economic Community takes effect in 2015. The anticipated boom in travel industry across ASEAN nations which encompass 10-member countries in the bloc is expected to open up opportunities for airlines.
Bangkok Airways will inaugurate its new domestic routes from Bangkok to Krabi and Chiang Rai. The Bangkok-Krabi route will see an initial thrice to four daily flights while the Bangkok-Chiang Rai route will start off with two or three times daily frequency.
On the domestic sector, the airline will add frequency between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani with two daily flights and a once-daily flight between Chiang Mai and Phuket.
On the regional routes, the Chiang Mai-Mandalay service will become three times weekly frequency while the Chiang Mai-Yangon route will be four-times weekly affair.
The new services and additional frequencies will start on October 26 except for the inaugural Bangkok-Chiang Rai route which will start on November 1 yet.
This expansion will enable the airline to serve a much wider market within Thailand and the region. Tickets for these new routes and additional services are now open for booking.
To offer seamless travel and smooth connectivity to customers between flights within its network, the airline has partnered with several major airlines through code-share agreements. These airlines include airberlin, Air France, Eva Air, British Airways, Etihad Airways, KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Silkair, Cathay Pacific Airways and Japan Airlines.
Bangkok Airways' current route network spans across 23 destinations, 13 of which are regional and 10 domestic. Regional routes include Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Vientiane, Luan Prabang, Male, Mumbai, Nay Pyi Taw, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Dhaka, Mandalay and Yangon.
Domestic routes include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Sukhothai, Pattaya (U-Tapao), Trat, Phuket, Koh Samui and Udon Thani.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 26 aircraft, 18 of which are the narrow-body medium-range A320 family while the rest are ATR 72 turboprops.
