Bangkok Airways to Launch Bangkok to Chiang Rai Service

To coincide with the introduction of its new common-use self-service facility, Bangkok Airways has recently announced the opening of a direct service between the Bangkok and Chiang Rai.

The planned service between Bangkok and Chiang Rai will commence on March 28, 2014 starting off with a twice-daily affair. Each return flight will occur during the morning and evening for both cities.

The Bangkok-Chiang Rai service will be the airline's 9th domestic route originating from the capital.

Chiang Rai City is the provincial capital of Changwat Chiang Rai, located in northern Thailand just 55 kilometers off the Golden Triangle to the northeast.

Chiang Rai is a historical town and is one of the ancient capitals of the country. King Mangrai, ruler of the Lanna kingdom in late 13th century founded the city and subsequently made it its capital for more than three decades before it fell to Burmese rule.

The city of Chiang Rai is famous for the fabled Emerald Buddha, considered as the most revered Buddha statue in the world. Sadue Mueang, an ancient relic can also be found in the city.

Bangkok Airways currently flies to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Samui, Lampang, Sukhothai, Udon Thani and Trat from its hub in Bangkok. It also maintains secondary hubs in Krabi, Pattaya, Phuket, Samui and Chiang Mai with flights to regional and domestic destinations.

It has a current fleet of 25 aircraft, 10 of which are Airbus A319, 7 A320s and 8 turboprops.
