Bangkok Airways, the regional airline based in Bangkok has inked a codeshare agreement with Qantas, the state flag carrier of Australia which will enable them to sell tickets aside from their own.
The codeshare agreement, however, will cover only selected flights across their network. Passengers from both airlines will benefit from the partnership with seamless flight connections through their extensive network.
Tourists from Australia, for example, will now have a much easier and faster access directly from Singapore to Thailand's popular resort destination of Koh Samui and from Bangkok to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Koh Samui.
Qantas operates direct daily flights to both Bangkok and Singapore, two of the major popular destinations in the region.
Starting March 30 this year, Qantas clients will be able to book flights through Bangkok Airways website. These flights include Singapore-Koh Samui and Bangkok to Koh Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai.
Bangkok Airways' Senior Vice President for Network, Mr. Peter Wiesner, remarked that the new agreement will give Qantas passengers traveling to Bangkok and Singapore smooth and easy access to some of the most popular destinations in Thailand.
Moreover, they will be able to enjoy the Bangkok Airways brand of service which has been the trademark of Thai hospitality aboard each flight. The Thai airline also extends free lounge access as well as in-flight meal, among others, to Qantas passengers who book these codeshare flights.
Simon Hickey, Qantas International CEO, said that the partnership between the two airlines will offer transit passengers through Bangkok and Singapore the best options for their onward and return journey to/from these world-class destinations in Thailand.
Passengers on codeshare flights will have the opportunity to earn frequent flyer points plus the ease and comfort of claiming their luggage at the final destination airport.
The agreement, however, initially offers a unilateral benefit favoring Qantas passengers but the two airlines are now working on it too to offer the same benefits to Bangkok Airways passengers in the future. Bangkok Airways currently doesn't fly to Australia.
The following codeshare flights operated by Bangkok Airways available for booking to Qantas passengers include: Singapore-Koh Samui, Bangkok-Koh Samui, Bangkok-Chiang Mai, Bangkok-Chiang Rai, Bangkok-Krabi and Bangkok-Phuket.
