On September 15, Bangkok Airways will launch its inaugural service between Bangkok and Mandalay which is an addition to the service already put up by other two Thailand-based carriers, Thai AirAsia and Thai Smile.

The maiden operations on the Bangkok-Mandalay route will initially start with a frequency of four-times a week. The four-times weekly affair, however, will only last until October 27 as the airline will increase its frequency to a once-daily service between the Thai Kingdom capital and Myanmar's former royal capital. The increase of frequency is planned ahead of the peak season to meet strong demand.

Mandalay is Myanmar's second largest city and once served as the country's capital during the rule of the Konbaung Dynasty, the last dynasty that ruled Burma for a little more than 26 years.

The Bangkok-Mandalay route is said to be the second most important route between the two Southeast Asian countries after Bangkok-Yangon route.

Aside from Bangkok Airways, other Thailand-based airlines that fly to Myanmar cities include Thai AirAsia, Thai Airways, and soon, Nok Air. Three of Myanmar's most popular destinations include Yangon, Nyapyidaw and Mandalay.

The airline will use the 144-seat Airbus A319 for the direct service which operates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flight departs Bangkok at 1200 hours and arrives Mandalay at 1320 hours, local time. The return flight leaves Mandalay at 1410 hours and touches down at 1635 hours in Bangkok.

On the occasion of its maiden service on the route, Bangkok Airways is launching a promo offering return tickets to customers as low as ฿3,790 exclusive of airport tax and fuel surcharges. Valid for travel until November 30, 2013.
