Regional airline Bangkok Airways and the world behemoth British Airways have struck a deal recently to codeshare their respective flights starting June 11 this year.
The codeshare agreement will enable clients from both carriers to book one or more flights on each carrier's route network between Thailand and United Kingdom. For example, a traveler who wants to fly to Koh Samui from Bangkok will be able to book flights through British Airways, even though the airline doesn't have a service to the island resort.
In a similar fashion, a Thai client who wants to spend a holiday in London would be able to book flights through Bangkok Airways, even though the airline doesn't fly there.
British Airways currently flies once daily from London to Bangkok, its only route to Thailand. It also flies to Singapore from London two times daily as well as Singapore to Koh Samui.
Bangkok Airways, on the other hand, flies out of the Thai capital to most major and popular destinations across Thailand such as Phuket, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai.
With the codeshare arrangement in place, a traveler from London would be able to purchase tickets from London to any of the Thai destinations beyond Bangkok, only once through either carriers ticketing office or website.
BA flights to Bangkok and Singapore will operate from London-Heathrow's Terminal 5 starting October this year.
Steve Ronald of BA was excited about the recent partnership between the two airlines, saying that more European tourists will get a chance to enjoy the beautiful beaches around Thailand.
His Bangkok Airways counterpart, Peter Wiesner, equally praised the recent agreement as it will give BA customers the opportunity to experience unparalleled services that Bangkok Airways is known for, including free access to lounges, superb dining options, among others.
