An official from AirAsia, currently the region's largest budget airline, said that they are not cutting down air services or reducing service frequencies to Bangkok despite the closure.

A senior executive from Thai AirAsia said that the type of aircraft they are using are still permitted to take off but not land from the runway which is under repair. The two-month renovation project would surely affect on the number of arrivals but he pointed out that they are expecting it.

AirAsia and its Thai subsidiary fly out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Suvarnabhumi Airport 16 times per day, or four times more than the flag carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS). The low-cost airline also flies out of its Penang hub two times daily.

According to the report, as compiled by The Edge Financial Daily, AirAsia will have to bear the burden of spending on fuel costs more than necessary due to the condition, some pundits say, would take up to 45 minutes on peak hours.

Aviation authorities of Thailand announced that Suvarnabhumi Airport will close its East runway for the renovation starting today until 10th of August. It further warned and advised the public that there would be serious air and ground traffic.
