AirAsia continues to expand its reach with the soon-to-be-launched direct flights between Chiang Mai and Hangzhou in China.

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province in Eastern China and its largest city as well. The city is known for its World Heritage Xi Hu or West Lake which is thought to have inspired or influenced many garden designs throughout China as well as Japan and Korea through the centuries. The lake features numerous pagodas, temples and gardens surrounding its surface area of 6.5 square kilometers.

In addition to the tourist attractions, the city also hosts a number of shopping areas such as the Song Dynasty City Replica and Qinghefang Ancient Street. Hangzhou also takes pride of its world famous Longjin tea, regarded as the best of Chinese teas. Visitors may also shop for silk, which the city is famous for, as a souvenir before flying home.

According to Thai AirAsia's CEO, Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, the direct service will enable tourists from both countries to explore other places of interest outside their capitals of Bangkok and Beijing. China is the world's largest travel market and is one of the fastest-growing in the region.

The city is fast becoming an important hub, not just for business and transport but tourism as well. With the modern Shanghai'Hangzhou High-Speed Railway, the city is now less than an hour ride to Shanghai, making its easy for tourists to spend a half-day tour or so in China's largest city.

Chinese travelers who want to explore northern Thailand will no longer need to go to Bangkok to catch a connecting flight to Chiang Mai. In a similar manner, Thai tourists will have an opportunity to visit other tourist centers in China such as Hangzhou.

Aside from direct flights, AirAsia is also offering Fly Thru services between two destinations via Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport and claim their baggage in the final destination. So that if a traveler from Chiang Mai wants go to Yangon (Yangon and Chiang Mai don't have direct connection), he can do so with a short layover at Don Mueang Airport and claim his baggage in Yangon, giving him a seamless connection. The offer is available to travelers from both directions.

Thai AirAsia offers this unique service to travelers originating from the provinces of Chiang Mai, Krabi and Phuket.
