Based on a recent study conducted by Visa, the leading credit card company, Thai travelers tend to spend more on their next trip abroad averaging 92% over their last travel.

Asia Pacific region will remain the most popular destination to Thai tourists. Japan tops the list of their most favored destinations in the region while South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and China come next in that particular order.

According to Visa executive, Somboon Krobteeranon, Thais like to travel a lot, whether within the country or overseas.

The most recent study reveals that Thai travelers are becoming more internet savvy than even before, making their travel bookings mostly online using their Visa cards.

Mr. Krobteeranon, Visa manager for Thailand and Myanmar, claimed that using Visa cards on online transactions like booking trips does make sense especially when you don't have the luxury of time to go out and stuff your wallet with large amount of cash and head to a shop.

Moreover, the study discovers that most Thais travel in groups with a huge 71% of Thais travel with their family or spouse in tow. A significant percentage of Thais, or 38%, travel with their buddies as against global average of 19%. Also, Thais usually travel in big groups (6 or more) as against world average of only 10%.

Short-haul flights comprise the bulk of air travels most Thais take. This is not surprising as Thailand shares land borders with peninsular Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

Travels to nearby countries make up more than half of their travels abroad. Budget airlines, understandably, serve most of their trips to these countries.

Most travelers from Thailand come from big cities and towns who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the urban life mostly during weekends and holidays.

In a similar survey, visitors to Thailand are likely to extend their stay, travel within the country and spend more as a result. A huge percentage of visitors to Thailand, at 77%, come from Asia Pacific region and intend to travel again to the country in the future.

A huge chunk of travelers from the Asian region, at 80%, made more than one trip within the Asia Pacific region in the past couple of years.

Travelers within the region also spend $273/day on average, against a global average of $239 per day.
