Thailand's cabinet officials recently issued a resolution to call on Section 44 of the constitution in an effort to reorganize and strengthen the country's aviation industry.
The move gives Thai PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, in his capacity as Head of National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) authority to issue orders that would lead to the reorganization of the country's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA). Eventually, it seeks to meet the global aviation standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Under this Section, the Transport Ministry shall be directed to manage Thailand's aviation regulations and create a new department that would manage the country's airports. The DCA will be abolished in the process.
Additionally, a unit in charge of rescue activities and inquests on accidents involving the air industry will be put up. Such unit will be working directly under the office of the PM.
Meanwhile, the new department replacing the DCA will be hiring aviation experts. About 48 new personnel are needed to fill up technical positions.
Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd, deputy government spokesperson disclosed that Thailand is trying to improve its aviation sector, citing that efforts are focused on attaining international aviation standards maintained by the ICAO.
Thailand will do everything to meet ICAO's deadline, the deputy added.
