Prospective new Airline, Thai Tiger Airlines (TTA), is one step closer to becoming a reality, now that Thai Airways International (THAI) and Tiger Airways have moved to sign a joint venture agreement
Under the proposed agreement, THAI is to hold 49.9% in TTA with unnamed Thai individual shareholders holding 1.1%. Tiger Airways will hold 39% in TTA and RyanThai, the holding firm of Ryanair, the Irish low cost carrier (LCC) that is also a shareholder in Tiger Airways, has a 10% stake.
As his new shareholding structure has a majority Thai ownership, it meets requirements for an airline to operate domestic flights in Thailand.
The original plan for the new airline would be to compete with AirAsia by using an Airbus A320 jetliners to run the following eight routes:
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Phuket
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Chiang Mai
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Kuala Lumpur
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Penang
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Macau
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Chennai
- Bangkok, (Suvarnabhumi) to Shenzhen
- Phuket to Chiang Mai.
