A Thai Lion Air pilot preparing for take off from the Don Mueang airport decided to cancel the flight after he was alerted of a passenger's prank about explosives in the plane.
In the afternoon of November 1, passengers of the flight headed for Hat Yai airport were already boarding the plane when the prank occurred.
According to the chief of police of Don Mueang airport, one of the stewardesses was assisting passengers put their hand carry items into the overhead lockers for luggages.
A young male passenger remarked that there could be an explosive device stashed away in one of the luggages and advised the stewardess to handle them with care.
Upon hearing of the man's comments, the stewardess immediately proceeded to the flight pilot to report what has just transpired. The pilot then decided to discontinue the flight and gave instructions for all passengers to instantly vacate the plane.
According to the airport police chief, a team of explosives disposal experts searched the luggages for any explosives but no such device was ever found.
The young man who made the prank was escorted to the airport police station for further interrogation. It was learned that the man is Pichit Boondaeng, aged 23 years old.
After the interrogation Mr. Boondaeng was reprimanded for giving out fabricated information which caused distress among fellow passengers.
The police filed the appropriate charges for such offense. Thai Lion Air will also file a civil case against him.
If he is proven guilty of the charges, he will be liable to pay up to 200,000 baht or, serve prison term of up to five years.
