The government of Thailand has directed the state-owned carrier, Thai Airways, to fly to provincial destinations many of which were still not served by any other airlines.

No less than the Thai Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, was calling on the state carrier to reach out to far-flung areas where there was few or no air service. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is also the country's Defense Minister, having assumed the office only in June 30 this year.

The call was announced during the meeting in Bangkok between economic ministers and several other parties, according to Deputy Prime Minister, Surapong Tovichakchaikul, who also serves as Foreign Minister of Thailand.

Thai Airways is owned by the government of Thailand through the supervision of the Finance Minister's Office.

Recently, the airline experienced a decline in international travelers from China, Hong Kong, Australia and Europe, primarily due to the country's volatile political environment.

The Office of National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) has devised a way to divert international tourists away from the capital to the more peaceful areas of Thailand. It has proposed to create promotional activities such as shopping campaigns in areas outside Bangkok and immediate areas around the capital which are free from political-related mass actions.

Foreign Minister, Surapong Tovichakchaikul, revealed that the enforcement of Internal Security Act (ISA) in the national capital as well as neighboring provinces around Bangkok will be remain in place for as long as necessary.

Mass actions are expected to resume the following day after the nationwide celebrations of the birthday of King Bhumidol Adulyadej on Thursday.
