Thai Airways International has decided to proceed with its plans regarding the establishment of an ultra low-cost carrier under its brand.
According to Piyasvasti Amranand, the airline's outgoing president, Thai Airways has been working with Nok Airlines to set up the planned low-cost airline which will be introduced at an unspecified date next year. He did not give any details about such plan, though.
He also added that although he will no longer be the airline's president, it would not affect, in any way, the July 7 launching of the Thai Smile, which will provide flights to the region of Macau. TS will also offer first-class flights to near destinations.
Armranand likewise stated his regret over the cancelled plan on the LCC Thai Tiger, which he claimed could have been an important part of the Bangkok-Singapore trade.
While he dodged the issue of whether or not LCCs have benefited the airline industry in general, Amranand somehow acknowledged that they were of great help to the consumers, since it encouraged competition among airlines. However, he also said that it had made life much difficult.
Amranand was removed from his post last May 23. Chokchai Panyayong, the Thai Airways' Executive Vice President, was directed to take over.
