AirAsia Plane

AirAsia X, the long-haul budget brand of AirAsia, flies to long-haul international routes out of its hub in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The establishment of Thai AirAsia X would be AirAsia's second airline venture in the country following the establishment of a local subsidiary of its short-haul brand Thai AirAsia in 2003.

Thai AirAsia X, the first local subsidiary of its long-haul brand will have its hub in Bangkok. The approval for an Air Operator's License from Thai regulatory body usually precedes the granting of Air Operator's Certificate which it hopes to obtain before the year's end.

Thai AirAsia has been operating for 10 years and, no doubt, has built a strong market base both in Thailand and countries where it flies to. According to its CEO, Azran Osman-Rani, these short-haul routes will serve as feeder routes for the long-haul Thai AirAsia X brand which has a different market base.

There will be no overlapping of service between Thai AirAsia and Thai AirAsia X as the latter will serve mostly long-haul destinations such as North Asia and Australia where the former doesn't serve.

Passenger traffic between Thailand and the aforementioned regions currently don't have much options except flying with full-service airlines.

With the entry of Thai AirAsia X serving these routes, leisure travelers will soon have not only cheaper mode of air transport but also improved competitiveness and efficient service.

Thai AirAsia X will have its hub in Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport.
