Competition in Thailand's commercial aviation industry is getting tougher with the entry of another airline, Thai AirAsia X.

The new airline has just been issued Air Operator's Certificate from Thai aviation regulatory board allowing it fly overseas from its Bangkok hub.

Thai AirAsia X is a long-haul low-cost subsidiary of Malaysia-based AirAsia Bhd. Aside from Thailand, the pioneer in budget travel in Asia also operates a string of low-cost carriers across the SE Asian region including Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Japan and its home base, Malaysia.

Thai AirAsia X will have an initial fleet of two Airbus A330-300 aircraft, all leased from its mother unit, AirAsia Bhd., for its inaugural operations.

The airline, though, keeps mum on the international routes it will launched during the maiden operations. It is also withholding the launch date of its inaugural service, considering the present political unrest in Thailand which could be an untimely event for a business to commence operations.

Meanwhile, Azran Osman-Rani, AirAsia X CEO, remarked that Thai AirAsia X will offer seamless connection between long-haul routes and Thai AirAsia's own domestic and regional route network.

The airline official further said that it will make Thailand as AirAsia X's next major hub for its long-haul operations to complement its hub in Kuala Lumpur. It is also planning to create another hub in Bali, Indonesia in the future.
