Encouraged by the positive result of its maiden long-haul operations launched last June 17, Thai AirAsia X launched two more routes from the Thai capital to the Japanese cities of Osaka and Tokyo.
Starting last September 1, the Bangkok-Osaka service is a five times weekly flights, spanning a distance of over 4,157 kilometers, while the Bangkok-Tokyo service is a once-daily operation.
The low-cost airline is operating from the Narita International Airport on its Bangkok-Tokyo route. Narita is located more than 57 kilometers from Tokyo Station, the main and largest intercity rail terminal near downtown Tokyo.
The frequency of the Bangkok-Narita service will eventually increase to twice daily starting March 26, 2015. The Bangkok-Osaka service, on the other hand, will become a once-daily operation by then.
Thai AirAsia X will enjoy a service monopoly on the twin routes for the time being, as there are no other airlines offering direct service from Don Mueang Airport to both Japanese cities.
The airline's CEO, Nadda Buranasiri, was quite ecstatic about the prospect of its two new routes to Japan, saying that their inaugural flights were both well-received. He was optimistic that the demand for low-cost travel between the two countries will remain strong.
He disclosed that the long-haul low-cost carrier has been getting advance bookings for the first quarter of 2015. This prompted them to announce this early the addition of frequency to these Japanese routes by March.
Most airlines that serve the two Japanese cities such as Thai Airways, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, and Delta Airlines operate from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, so Thai AirAsia X faces no competition at Don Mueang.
