After it gets approval from the regulatory board to start operations, the low-cost long-haul carrier is seeing a bright future ahead as it prepares to take off by the middle of this year.
Thai AirAsia X is the latest addition to the country's burgeoning air travel industry which is seen to grow further in the years to come. It is the first overseas venture of the highly successful AirAsia Bhd for its long-haul brand, AirAsia X.
During its inaugural service, the carrier is planning to launch three routes from its Bangkok hub at Don Mueang International Airport. The flight to Seoul, South Korea will be the airline's inaugural service from the Thai capital on June 17. One month later, it will simultaneously launch two routes from Bangkok to Osaka and Tokyo in Japan.
According to the airline's CEO, Nadda Buranasiri, the expanding network of the AirAsia group will virtually connect more local, regional and intra-regional destinations across the vast Asian region.
The Thais started to travel more often since the introduction of low-cost travel over ten years ago by Thai AirAsia, the executive added.
Thailand is already home to Thai AirAsia, the regular low-cost subsidiary of the Malaysia-based budget airline leader. It is the first overseas airline venture of AirAsia Bhd. when it was established in December 2003 and began operations in February 2004.
Thai AirAsia X tested the local market when it launched its domestic operations on April 22, almost two weeks ago already.
During its maiden operations, the budget carrier will work extensively on brand-building until it finds opportunity to expand its fleet as well as its network. It is already eyeing China as possible destination for its route expansion the following year.
Thai AirAsia X keeps a fleet of two wide-body A330-300 aircraft for its maiden operations.
