Thai AirAsia To Fly to Kunming China

Thai AirAsia is rapidly expanding its network beyond its regional stronghold in mainland Southeast Asia to cover a total of 7 cities in mainland China.

Starting November 15 this year, Thai AirAsia commenced a daily service to its 7th mainland Chinese destination, Kunming. Overall, Kunming will be the airline's 9th destination in China from its hub in Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport.

It already flies to Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Wuhan and Xi'an from Bangkok.

Kunming is the largest and capital city of Yunnan province in Southwest China. It serves as the economic, cultural, political and communications center of the province. Aside from being the seat of the provincial government, it also home to major institutions, museums, universities and galleries and the headquarters to many of Yunnan's large businesses.

The once-daily service to Kunming will be serviced by Airbus A320 aircraft, departing Bangkok at 09:00 hrs. On its return flight, it will depart Kunming at 13:20 hrs to land at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport at 14:50 hrs. The estimated travel time between Bangkok and Kunming is a little more than two and a half hours.

According to Thai AirAsia CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, China is a very important market for the low-cost carrier. He further said that China, the world's most populous country, will remain their focus market in the next few years recognizing its vast potential for the growth of the airline.

On the occasion of its maiden service to Kunming, the budget carrier offers one-way tickets for as low as THB1,690 including taxes and other fees. It has started accepting bookings this early thru its website.

Currently, the airline operates about 119 flights out of Thailand to China including Hong Kong and Macau.

Thai AirAsia covers a total network of 32 destinations, 20 of which are international and 12 are domestic. Its current fleet consists of an all-Airbus A320 aircraft.
