Thai AirAsia has recently added Bengaluru, India in its roster of flight destinations. Its pioneering flight to the third most highly populated city in the country has been set on September 1, 2015.

The airline will be offering an affordable fare rate of about Rs 3,999 for flights between the city and Bangkok.

According to the airline's CEO Tassapon Bijleveld, Bengaluru fits in with AirAsia's 3 to 4-hour flight range and flight route. Coming from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport, it would take approximately less than 4 hours to reach Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport.

The CEO added that hundreds of Thai nationals are studying in the Indian city and this opens up opportunities to feed current demand for Bengaluru-Bangkok flights.

He also disclosed that the airline also aims to service first-time visitors. At present, more than a third of Thai AirAsia's customers are visiting for leisure.

The airline operates on short haul flights thus, it tries to speed up turnaround time in order to operate feasibly.

Thai AirAsia used to fly to Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata but it had to drop the last two due to fierce competition and high cost of fuel.

However, it appears that the airline seems to be staging a comeback. Apart from flying to Bengaluru this September, it plans to conduct new flights to two more Indian cities by 2016.

The airline hoped to conduct seven weekly flights to India but cannot do so at the moment because it had to honor an existing India-Thailand bilateral agreement. Nevertheless, Bijleveld is confident that the airline will be able to attain a more than 80 per cent passenger load factor by December 2015.

Improving disposable incomes among Indian nationals along with capacity and willingness to spend for travel and leisure revitalized Thai AirAsia's hopes of expanding flights to India.

Thailand has been a favorite destination among Indians. Last year alone, more than 900,000 Indian visitors have toured the country.
