The Airport rail link from Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi is launching its check-in service today, (Jan 4th, 2011) at Makkasan City Air Terminal, five months after the rail service started.
The check-in service is initially available only for people flying with Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways.
Yuthana Thapcharoen, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said "Passengers who want to check in and load their luggage can do this from three to 13 hours before departing".
There are two train services:
- the Express Line is a 15-minute non-stop ride from Makkasan terminal to the airport,
- the City Line, a commuter train that stops at eight stations takes about 27 minutes.
The City line train runs from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Lat Krabang, Ban Thap Chang, Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng, Makkasan (City Air Terminal), Ratchaprarop and Phya Thai stations.
Tickets for the City Line range from between 15 to 45 Baht per person, depending on the distance of travel. The Express Line tickets are 150 Baht per trip.
The Airport Link is connected to the BTS Skytrain and Bangkok Metro Blue Line subway.
Trains will depart every 15 minutes and will run every day from 6am to midnight.
The services are designed to cater for up to 50,000 passengers a day.
Passengers can transfer from Phya Thai station, which has platforms for both the Airport Link and the Skytrain and the Airport Link's Makkasan terminal and Phetchaburi station on the Bangkok Metro Blue Line.
The airport train runs at speeds up 160kph line and is 28.6 kilometres long.
